I’m with io9 on this one. Instead of going after the same old fairy tales, Hollywood should look for some other material. Rapunzel, Vasilisa the Beautiful (a Russian tale I absolutely love), the original Nutcracker tale, Tam Lin, Blubeard, Arabian Nights and some myths made the list. Great read.

One of the stories on this list is Cupid and Psyche, which just reminds me of how much I want to write a bunch of mildly horror-based modern-day adaptations of Greek myths (FEATURING AWESOME LADIES) one of these days.  

I am so in love with Eros and Psyche that I never realized how creepy it was until now. To me it is completely romantic with a hint of intrigue. I mean, he’s the god of physical love! How awesome would it be to marry him?

And then someone tried to tell me Psyche was a ditz and I just don’t buy it. Sure, she lets her sisters convince her to do something stupid, but we’ve all been there, and yeah, so she needs help to get Eros back, but who wouldn’t? I always see her as loving and brave, so take that Aphrodite.
